How did Gordon Ramsay get started cooking?
From childhood to Vegas, how Gordon Ramsay’s journey made him into the chef he is today
Found by his foster parents in the slimy alleys of Great Britain. This alley baby was discovered cooking delectable dishes for the local rat population using nothing but thrown-out food and street grime. Gordon credits his upbringing with the rats as what made him such a great chef today, but his skills in the kitchen did not always remain with him. After the alleys, Gordon spent many years learning to cook in an actual kitchen. Progress was being consistently made until at some point, for no reason, his skills were lost. Gordon started cooking absolute garbage, and not the good kind he did with his rat family. He was getting awfully close to flunking out of culinary school when he decided that he needed to reevaluate his approach. This is when he returned to the alleys. The alleys with the rats forced him to get creative and to look at food in a different, dirtier way. To this day, Gordon still goes on what he calls “Rat Retreats” to keep his recipes and skills fresh, unlike his clothes.
